Sydney, Oct 29, 2005 (ABN Newswire) - Norton Gold Fields Limited (ASX: NGF) is pleased announce the commencement of mining activity at its Norton Gold Mine project.
The Company's CEO, Mr Tim Prowse, confirmed that blasting and mining operations had now commenced for the purposes of undertaking a short mining programme. This programme will produce 3,000 tonnes of high grade ore suitable for toll treatment at the Gympie processing plant operated by Gympie Eldorado Mining Pty Ltd.
The initial mining and toll treatment programme will be completed by Christmas. If this programme is successful the Company aims to continue mining and treatment operations at a rate of 3,000 to 5,000 tonnes per month.
The Norton Gold Mine has a resource of 453,000 tonnes grading 7.4g/t (a total resource of 108,000 ounces of gold). The mine was last worked in 1997 when 4,713 tonnes of ore grading 9.5 g/t was mined, yielding 1,340 ounces of gold for a 93 % recovery.
