Sydney, July 9, 2007 (ABN Newswire) - The ANZ Bank has agreed to buy a 10 per cent stake in Vietnamese-based Saigon Securities. ANZ and Saigon Securities have already been working together for some time on corporate bond issues for large Vietnamese companies. ANZ says it's one of the first foreign banks to open in Vietnam and regards expansion in the country as one of its highest priorities. ANZ's 10 per cent stake in the firm is worth around $102 million. The ANZ Bank's earnings have been increasing over the last 4 financial years.

Tabcorp has moved a step closer to naming its new chief executive. After a four month search, the gaming company has circulated a short list of seven candidates. The current acting chief, Elmer Funke Kupper, is the favourite for the top job. Former chief executive Matthew Slatter was sacked in March after a dismal first half earnings result and cost blow-outs. Tabcorp produced record earnings in 2006.

And News Corp is now facing some competition from supermarket magnate Ronald Burkle in its quest for Dow Jones. It comes as Dow Jones makes a last push to find other potential buyers. Mr Burkle has been exploring a structure for Dow Jones that would incorporate an employee stock ownership plan. The Dow Jones Board is expected to meet with Mr Burkle today.
