Sydney, Aug 8, 2007 (ABN Newswire) - The share market extended yesterday's gains with Macquarie Bank leading the market into higher territory. Easing concerns over the extent to which the U.S. housing slump will impact of U.S. growth also helped to prop up the market.

The ASX 200 Index closed up 116 points at 6101, and on the futures market the SPI 200 gained 109 points.

In economic news, the Reserve Bank this morning raised the official cash rate by 25 basis points to 6 and-a-half per cent. The move was widely anticipated and leaves interest rates at levels not seen since 1996
