Sydney, Aug 21, 2007 (ABN Newswire) - The share market reversed earlier losses to finish the day in positive territory, adding to yesterday's gains. Dealers say it were gains in regional markets that spurred our market towards the end of the session.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index closed up 57 points to 5989, and on the futures market the SPI 200 gained 66 points.

In economic news, Treasurer Peter Costello today announced the government had in fact produced a budget surplus of $17.3 billion, compared to the estimated May budget surplus of $13.6 billion. The treasurer says he intends to spend the new found cash on higher education and health
