Australian shares have gained in morning trade led by a rebound in financial firms such as Macquarie Bank and other major banks which had been sold off in the previous two sessions.
However gains have been limited due to worries about the U.S. housing slump and credit conditions and ahead of domestic inflation data due out tomorrow.
At Midday the S&P/ASX200 index has gained 52 points to 6,629 and on the futures market the SPI 200's up 46.
