Perth, Jan 21, 2010 (ABN Newswire) - Legend Mining Limited (
ASX:LEG) (
PINK:LGDMF) is pleased to announce the commencement of a helicopter borne magnetic and radiometric survey at its Cameroon Project, West Africa. The survey, covering approximately 3,510km2, will be undertaken over the Ngovayang and Mayo Binka Project Areas by geophysical contractors New Resolution Geophysics and should take 4-5 weeks to complete.
First pass flight line spacings of 400m will be completed, followed by detailed 100-200m spaced lines over areas of interest to assist with interpretation and target selection.
"We are very pleased that the survey has commenced so soon after the 4th of December shareholder meeting, ensuring that the 2010 exploration programme gets off to a timely start", said Legend Managing Director Mr Mark Wilson.
Legend has also recently applied for a new exploration permit to the immediate northwest of Ngovayang covering an area of 997km2, This permit application contains 58km of itabirite in 11 separate zones (identified from 1986 BRGM mapping), bringing the total strike length of itabirite within Legend's Ngovayang tenements to 115km in 24 separate zones.
The aeromagnetic survey at Ngovayang covers 2,560km2 and will provide modern, high quality data over the 115km of magnetite bearing itabirite units. These itabirite zones, which can contain 20-45% Fe, are considered possible proto ore for higher grade mineralisation due to supergene/ alteration processes and structural deformation.
Priority target areas identified by the survey will be followed up with geological mapping, trenching and geochemical sampling. Drilling of these priority areas is envisaged for May-June 2010, as part of Legend's exploration programme to evaluate the iron ore potential of the project.
