Sydney, June 30, 2010 (ABN Newswire) - Online travel service provider Webjet Limited (
ASX:WEB) said the company has entered into a 50 per cent joint venture with Westminster Travel (SIN:5OF), a Hong Kong based travel agency, in a move to expand its operations into Asia.
Webjet said it has successfully commenced business in North America in April and it sees Asia a significant international growth region.
Operations under the Webjet brand, and utilising Webjet's technology, will commence later this year initially in Hong Kong and Singapore. Westminster, which has vast experience in the region, will provide local management and multilingual customer service facilities and as a result will provide substantial economy of scale during the initial stages of development along with a deep understanding of the local markets and opportunities.
Webjet said that initial operations will focus on leisure and SME business in flights, and hotels through Stay n Pay.
