Perth, Dec 22, 2010 (ABN Newswire) - Australian resources company Bauxite Resources Limited (
ASX:BAU) ("Bauxite" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Sibly as a non-executive director of the company, effective from 22 December 2010.
Perth-based Mr Sibly is a highly experienced and well credentialed executive, with more than 35 years of operational and executive experience within the bauxite and alumina refinery sectors, including more than 15 years as a senior executive with Alcoa (NYSE:AA).
In 2006 Mr Sibly retired from his role of President Global Manufacturing Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals, based in New York. In this position he was responsible for nine refineries and five operating mines around the world. He was also accountable for engineering, construction, and research and development of Alcoa's mining and refineries.
In his career with Alcoa Mr Sibly held various senior positions, including leading the process design team and being inaugural works manager at the Sao Luis Alumina refinery in Brazil, and works manager at the Kwinana and Pinjarra refineries in Western Australia.
In 2000 Mr Sibly received the Irving W Wilson award for 'outstanding leadership and management of technology throughout Alcoa'.
Mr Sibly has previously been a president of the Australian Minerals Industry Research Association, director of the centre for minesite rehabilitation research, and member of many other councils and advisory bodies. He is currently managing director of Brolga Consulting Pty Ltd, and non-executive director of Exergen Pty Ltd and LVNG Pty Ltd.
Bauxite Resources Chairman, Mr Barry Carbon, believes the appointment of Mr Sibly to the Bauxite Resources Limited will prove a key milestone in the development of the BRL assets and the Company's broader refinery plans.
"I am extremely pleased that John has agreed to join the Board," he said. "In our view he is the most qualified person in the business world to contribute to our next phase towards production of alumina in south-western Australia. We are very serious about building shareholder and community value based on the plentiful bauxite of the Darling Range. I am sure that John will make a great contribution to that ambition."
Mr Sibly said that he saw the position with the Bauxite Resources Board as an exciting opportunity to apply his skills and experience to a positive development.
"I know that the Darling Range bauxite is a wonderful raw material for refining in WA. I know that refinery operation and design has come a long way, and I am excited to be able to apply my learnings and management experience to being part of this emerging venture," he said.
Mr Sibly has a Bachelor of Applied Science (University of Adelaide) and an Associate Diploma - Primary Metallurgy (SAIT). He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a past Member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers.

Bauxite Resources Limited (ASX:BAU) was established in May 2006 to become a part of the bauxite and alumina industries in Western Australia where four of the seven Australian alumina refineries and four of Australia’s bauxite mines are located.
