Interview with Charlie Dowsett, Executive Director for Investment Services

Vancouver, Mar 20, 2015 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Andy Barnicoat (Acting Executive Director, NSW Geological Survey) and Charlie Dowsett (Executive Director, Industry, Investment & Export Support), represented NSW at the annual PDAC convention in Toronto earlier this month.

PDAC is the world's largest and most important exploration and mining event, attracting an attendance of 23,500 this year. This was slightly down on the past few years with a high water mark of about 32,000 in 2011 and 2012.

NSW participated as part of Australia Minerals, which comprises all of the States/NT coordinated by Geoscience Australia and with support from Austrade. The Australia Minerals area was formally opened by the Federal Minister for Trade and Investment, Mr Andrew Robb on March 3rd.

The Australian pavilion also hosted a number of Australian METS companies, including Deep Exploration Technology CRC and University of Western Australia's Centre for Exploration Targeting.

PDAC brings together key players in the resources and energy sectors and represents a unique opportunity to promote the latest reforms, innovations and investment opportunities in NSW to both international and domestic colleagues. It also allows the opportunity to understand industry issues that are influencing the current market environment.

Other Australian companies (including explorers) and organisations were represented elsewhere in the trade show. Like Australia, Canada is suffering from a significant downturn in exploration and in particular in investment in exploration and many of the queries fielded were about investment opportunities in NSW, including both coal and minerals.

PDAC remains a critical event for Australia and NSW, to be visible as it is the opportunity to promote and inform the international resources and energy sector of the exploration potential and real investment opportunities that currently exist in NSW.
