Auckland, June 1, 2017 AEST (ABN Newswire) - New Talisman Gold Mines Limited (googlechartASX:NTL) today is pleased to announce that the Department of Conservation has approved the fencing off of the mine portal area to ensure the safety of the public and workers at the mine site, as increasing mine activities are carried out.

The board acknowledges the hard work of the dedicated team at the Department of Conservation who have made a careful and considered assessment of the safety issues in granting this approval. The Company will now take the necessary steps to implement the approval in the interests of protecting the health and safety of the public, our employees, and to secure our equipment.

The area to be fenced off is the immediate area around the mine site portal and will not affect access to any of the tramping tracks in the area, nor will it infringe on anyone's enjoyment of the area.

Matthew Hill stated "The portal pad which is a highly modified industrial site that was closed for many years and will be once again closed off as we take this historically very productive mine back on the road to development. These steps were necessary given the duty of care imposed by the Health and Safety at Work Act. The health and safety of the public and our employees and contractors remains our paramount concern."

An update on the mine related activities at site will be provided to shareholders shortly.
