Pike River Coal Limited (NZE:PRC) (PINK:PKRRF) has established a relief fund to support the families and communities of the men who have tragically lost their lives at the Pike River Coal Mine.

The Company has made a contribution of $500,000 to establish the fund.

Pike Chairman, John Dow said, "The Company is very focussed on the impact of this disaster on the families of our miners and on the wider community. This will have a lasting effect on all concerned and we will do what we can to support those affected."

The 'Pike River Miners' Relief Fund' has been established as a charitable trust and trustees will be appointed from the community.

Mr Dow said, "We very much appreciate the messages of support we are receiving and recognise that others have announced ways for the public to provide support. We will work with those parties to centralise these efforts".

Mr Dow noted that New Zealand Oil & Gas Limited (ASX:NZO) had advised him this morning that it would contribute $500,000 to the Fund.

"We will match this with $500,000 from Pike River Coal," Mr Dow said.
