Westhouse Medical Services Plc (FRA:5WM) Announces Appointment of Mr Nigel Kershaw as New Non-Executive Director

Healthcare specialist Westhouse Medical Services Plc (FRA:5WM) today announces the appointment of Mr Nigel Kershaw OBE as Non-Executive Director. Nigel is Group Chairman of The Big Issue having previously been its Chief Executive. He is also the CEO of Big Issue Invest, the UK's leading innovative provider of investment to social enterprises seeking to deliver both financial and social dividends.

He has extensive experience of building and restructuring operational businesses and launching successful, innovative new ventures as well as attracting financial investment and delivering both a financial and social return on investment.

Previous to joining The Big Issue in 1994, Nigel founded three employee owned printing and publishing companies and worked as a project manager, works manager, systems analyst, printer and trade union official. He trained as a four colour lithographic printer and gained his Diploma at the London College of Communication, now the University of the Arts, where he was also Chairman of the Board of Governors.

Nigel is a member of both the Big Society Capital and the British Venture Capital Association's Responsible Investment Advisory Boards. In 2008, Nigel was the winner of the Institute of Director's Good Enterprise Award.

He is a Fellow of the RSA and received an OBE in the 2010 New Year's Honours List for his services to social enterprise.

Westhouse is currently developing a number of medical devices, including BreastCheck - a new low-cost, non-invasive breast cancer screening product which can act as a precursor to mammogram scanning. BreastCheck is due for launch in 2013.

Westhouse recently acquired from US-listed Sunridge International via. Sunridge's subsidiary, Ophthalmic International Inc, a glaucoma procedure called PNT, which could revolutionise the way glaucoma is treated globally.
