Melbourne, June 17, 2009 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Environmental Clean Technologies Limited (ASX:ESI) wishes to advise it has engaged Hatch, who are recognised globally as leaders in metallurgical process technologies and advanced furnace design, to perform a review and assessment of commercial development of the Matmor process for iron making.

The study, expected to take approximately three months to conclude, will provide guidelines for developing a strategy to take Matmor through to full commercial implementation.

Matmor is a developmental technology designed to utilise lignite in the production of metallic iron from a range of ore and waste feedstock (e.g. mill scale).

ECT's focus has been on commercialising Coldry, which with minor modification, functions as the front end process to Matmor, producing a composite pellet (iron ore, lignite, flux) for feed to the patented Matmor retort.

Chief Executive Kos Galtos said subject to the outcome of this review and assessment, the next step would be a feasibility study for design and construction of a Matmor pilot plant.

"We are very pleased to have secured the expert services of Hatch to undertake this initial review and assessment study into the commercial viability of Matmor," he said.

"Moving forward, ECT aims to incorporate the Coldry pelletisation stage into the front end of the Matmor process to achieve continuous production over extended times with the view to gathering data to further inform scale up for a commercial demonstration plant," he said.

The Matmor retort has been developed to test plant scale (2t per day notional) with continuous production achieved last year.
