NewSat Limited (ASX:NWT) Committed To Strengthening The Australian Satellite Communication Industry

Melbourne, Feb 2, 2010 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Australia's leading independent Satellite Communications Company, NewSat Limited (googlechartASX:NWT) (OTC:NWTLY), wishes to advise the market of its ongoing interest to participate in the National Broadband Network (NBN).

With over 50 Australian satellite professional, NewSat believes it understands satellite and space better than any other Australian owned organisation. It is for this reason that the Company is proposing that its unique-to-Australia teleports, located in Adelaide and Perth, and the Jabiru Satellite Program, participate in bids to the Rudd Governments A$43 billion dollar NBN initiative for the 10 percent of remote Australia.

In 2005, NewSat acquired teleport assets from Dutch owned NewSkies and in doing so initiated a worldwide growth opportunity to participate in Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT & C) and VSAT operations for numerous blue chip organisations. As an independent entity, NewSat has grown its business substantially and built a solid, worldwide reputation for quality and dependability to over 1200 remote VSAT contracts globally. The experience of rolling out and maintaining high speed satellite broadband to 16 sites in the Kimberley, Western Australia and subsequently achieving strong uptake amongst the community, has given the Company confidence that these teleports have the experience to be used as the earth station 'connector' between the satellite and remote 10 percent of Australia, under the NBN's satellite strategy.

In 2007, NewSat initially announced the proposal to launch and operate a Ka band satellite to provide coverage across Australia and invited the then Howard Australian Government to participate in a 'dollar for dollar' launch program. In April 2009, 18 months later, the Rudd Government announced a A$43 billion dollar National Broadband Network (NBN) initiative, which included the provisions to deliver two 'next generation' satellites and wireless services to up to 10 percent of the Australian population.

NewSat has been an active supporter of this recent government policy and remains vigorous in developing its Jabiru NBN satellite strategy. NewSat has invested over two years of development in a Ka band satellite strategy across Australia and understand the requirements. The Company can ensure that these NBN focused satellites are launched and operating in the 2013-2014 calendar year, fully supported on Australian soil.

Adrian Ballintine, CEO of NewSat said,

"The Company's 8000 Aussie shareholders have played an important role in the development of satellite communications capabilities in Australia. As owners of a highly significant world class asset, NewSat believes that the Australian Government's NBN initiative should further support these developments in our own backyard."
