SHA:600256) has agreed to acquire 51% interest in an oil and gas block in Kazakhstan for US$200 million, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. The acquisition will further increase the Company's upstream assets in the international oil and gas industry, as it works towards its goal of becoming a Fortune 500 company. The target block, located in the Caspian Basin in the westernmost region of Kazakhstan, is currently in the exploration stage, and research has shown significant potential of large scale oil and gas resources.
