Australian shares opened stronger this morning on bargain hunting, despite Wall Street overnight fell on worries over the effectiveness of the bailout plan for eurozone and fears over China's further move to tighten monetary policy. Yesterday China's data showing that inflation in the country is rising prompted declines in most Asian markets.
Wall Street maintained its positive run on Wednesday session as the Federal Reserve officials tipped that the central bank could keep interest rate at historical low level. The Chinese economic data released yesterday also added confidence to global recovery hopes. European markets also rallied on low interest rate expectations.
The Australian share market on Tuesday fell for a second session dragged by lower commodities prices. The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index finished 69.2 points, or 1.72 per cent lower, at 3962.5 while the broader All Ordinaries index plunged 72.5 points, or 1.8 per cent, to 3,957.9 points.
The Australian share market ended lower on Monday, dragged by miners and banks. The market was cautious ahead of the federal budget which will forecast a record deficit tonight. Yesterday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 was down 15.7 points, or 0.4%, at 3926, while the broader All Ordinaries lost 9.1 points, or 0.23%, to 3910.5.
The Australia share market has fallen sharply with 3pc in minutes of the start of trading this morning, after Wall St tumbled overnight. The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down as much as 3.3%, or 148.5 points, to 4391.9 in early trading.
