Leading U.S. Cardiovascular Researcher Will Complete West Coast Presentation Schedule

Utica, NY, April 15, 2013 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Dr. Charles Antzelevitch, a distinguished Cardiovascular Researcher and Executive Director and Director of Research of the Cardiac Research Institute at the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory (MMRL) based in Utica, New York will complete a crowded schedule of lectures on the West Coast with an address at the annual meeting of the Women Rock It(R) With Heart event at The West Bay Conference Center in San Francisco on April 20, 2013.

Earlier that week, Dr. Antzelevitch will be a Visiting Professor at the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute of Stanford University in Stanford, California, where he will speak about novel approach to the management of atrial fibrillation, the most common abnormal heart rhythm encountered by physicians, as well as the J wave syndrome as a cause of sudden cardiac death. Later in the week, he will chair a session and speak on Early Repolarization and Brugada syndromes as causes of sudden death at the annual meeting of the International Society of Computerized Electrocardiology (ISCE) to be held at Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California.

The San Francisco based Women Rock It(R) organization seeks to empower women to overcome the emotional and social obstacles that tend to hold them back in life and encourages conversation which leads to personal and professional development and provides a supported environment for change.

This year's event will be centered on cardiovascular disease and the leading edge research which is being pursued by the MMRL. Dr Antzelevitch will make special mention of the Brugada Syndrome, the causes of which has been the subject of considerable research by he and his team in Utica.

This year's event is particularly significant since it marks the 10 year anniversary of the sudden death of Erik Grieve, 29, the late husband of Women Rock It® Co-Producer Hyla Molander, who died from the Brugada Syndrome, a life threatening heart rhythm disorder characterized by specific abnormal heart beats which can be detected by an Electrocardiogram.

Brugada Syndrome is frequently an inherited condition and Ms. Molander recently discovered that her young daughters, age 9 and 11, have both inherited their late father's condition.

Dr. Antzelevitch said he was very pleased to be able to address this timely meeting and particularly pleased to have the opportunity to discuss some of the most complex cardiovascular diseases like the Brugada Syndrome, which has caused so much distress to families like Hyla Molander. "We are especially grateful to Hyla for her unstinting support of our work at the MMRL and especially her very personal interest in the Brugada Syndrome about which so much is still to be learned", he said

Dr. Antzelevitch noted with thanks that proceeds from Women Rock It(R) with Heart will go to The Cardiac Research Institute at the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory (www.mmrl.edu), which is developing new treatments to prevent ventricular fibrillation arising in Brugada Syndrome and other SIDS and SADS diseases that cause sudden cardiac death.

The event, which begins at 5:00 p.m. on April 20, 2013, at The West Bay Conference Center is located at 1290 Fillmore Street San Francisco, CA 94115. This is the second year of the event and the first year that the Women Rock It(R) with Heart Directors have teamed up with the professionals in training from San Francisco State University. All are invited to this life-affirming occasion.
