Asian share markets closed sharply lower on Monday with investor sentiment sharply dented by a worse-than-expected contraction in the U.S. economy. In Hong Kong, Hang Seng Index fell 3.86 per cent, dragged by the slump in U.S. stocks to new bear market lows Friday and concerns over HSBC. Japan's Nikkei-225 was down 3.8 per cent, while South Korean stocks closed 4.16 per cent lower. But Shanghai shares bucked the regional trend, closing up 0.51 per cent, as government stimulus plans boosted real estate and cement stocks. |

Nidec Corporation (OSL:NJ) KYOTO, Japan, Oct. 1, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nidec Corporation ("Nidec") (NYSE:NJ), together with Fuji Electric Holdings ("FHC") (Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section: 6504) and one of its subsidiaries, Fuji Electric Systems ("FES") (or "Parties"), announced today that the Parties have agreed to a capital alliance arrangement with regards to the industrial compact motor business of Fuji Electric Motor ("FDM"), a subsidiary of FES, and FDM's three overseas subsidiaries ("FDM Group"). The parties have signed, on September 30, 2008, a non-binding memorandum of understanding ("MOU") wherein it was agreed that the ratio of capital contribution of Nidec and FES to the FDM Group shall be 60 percent and 40 percent, respectively. Consequently, FDM Group will cease to be a subsidiary of FHC and will become a new subsidiary of Nidec.

Nidec Corporation (OSL:NJ) KYOTO, Japan, Sept. 16, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nidec Corporation ("Nidec") (NYSE:NJ) announced today that it has submitted to the board of Toyo Denki Seizo K.K. ("Toyo Denki") (Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section: 6505), on September 16, 2008, a comprehensive proposal to acquire all, but not less than 50.1%, of the shares of common stock of Toyo Denki by way of a tender offer ("Proposal"). Nidec understands that Toyo Denki has adopted a plan for countermeasures to large-scale acquisitions of its shares ("Plan"), and it is Nidec's intention to respect and adhere to the evaluation process outlined in the Plan.
