China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. is principally engaged in the ocean shipping industry. The Company is engaged in tanker transportation, bulk cargo vessel transportation and liquid natural gas (LNG) vessel transportation. The Company's tanker fleet includes six very large crude carriers(VLCCs), one Suezmax tanker and nine Aframax tankers. The tanker fleet offers crude oil transport services to companies and traders in China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, the United States and others. The bulk cargo fleet, composed of 12 handymax carriers and two Panamax bulk carriers, mainly provides transport services for cargos such as iron ore, coal and foodstuff. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company's tanker fleet transported approximately 20.72 million tons of crude oil and the bulk cargo fleet transported 5.7 million tons of bulk cargos, as well as the LNG fleet began to operate its business.
