Lima 13, Norway, Apr 11, 2008 - (ABN Newswire) - On 10 April 2008, PRODUCE, the Peruvian Ministry of Production's Fishing Vice Ministry, entity that executes and directs the sector policies to guarantee the rational management of fishing resources and the preservation of the environment, issued resolution 434-2008-PRODUCE authorizing the start of the first fishing season in Peru.
IMARPE (Instituto del Mar Peruano), the scientific entity that studies sea biomass in Peru, estimates in a report dated 12 October 2007 the current biomass to be around 7.7 million tons.
Based on this report PRODUCE authorizes the first anchovy fishing season to begin on 21 April at 00:00 hours with a quota of 3 million tons, to be distributed in two periods.
The quota will be distributed as follows:
From 21 April to 10 May - up to 2 000 000 tons From 2 June - up to 1 000 000 tons
If in period (a) the capture exceeds the allowed quota, the excess will be taken off the second period quota of the first fishing season
