ÅF-Kontroll has been chosen to develop equipment and technology for non-destructive testing of reactor pressure vessels and the thereto connecting pipe sockets at Ringhals 2, 3 and 4. The contract also includes the carrying out of testing up until the end of 2012.

"This is Ringhals' largest ever procurement of reactor vessel testing. ÅF-Kontroll was selected after thorough evaluation of, amongst other things, the proposed testing technologies, resources/expertise and the ability to deliver," comments Björn Sjöström, head of the technology department at Ringhals.

"We are both proud and pleased by the confidence Ringhals has shown in us. This is one of the most prestigious and interesting testing assignments available in Swedish nuclear power. It has further strengthened our position on the Swedish market and we are well equipped for the job. We will continue to build up our resources and offer our services both inside and outside Sweden," states Jörgen Backersgård, President of ÅF-Kontroll AB.

Ringhals generates one fifth of all the electricity used in Sweden. The plant has four reactors and is located on the west coast in the municipality of Varberg around sixty kilometres south of Gothenburg.
