Sydney, Oct 25, 2017 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Hastings Technology Metals Ltd (ASX:HAS) (Hastings or Company) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Vivian Roberts as Director of Mining Operations of Hastings Technology Metals Ltd, with effect from 8 November 2017.

Mr Roberts has over 30 years of experience in large mining operations throughout Australia, covering several senior roles with large mining houses in various commodities. Mr Roberts has Bachelor degrees in Engineering (Mining), Economics and a Master of Business Administration.

In the past 15 years Mr Roberts has held various senior leadership positions including; General Manager Iron Ore for BC Iron, General Manager Metals Division Thiess Australian Mining (for the provision of contract mining services), General Manager Operations for the Roy Hill Iron Ore Project, General Manager for Fortescue's Christmas Creek mine, Alliance Manager for Thiess Mining at the BHP Billiton Mt Keith mine and Operations Manager for the Tiwest JV Cooljarloo mineral sands mine.

Mr Roberts has been directly involved in the establishment of a large (55 mtpa) iron ore mine starting from virgin ground through to plant commissioning and shipment. He has also been involved in the ramp up and expansion of several other mining operations including Prominent Hill, Century mine and Nifty Copper.

Mr Roberts is a member of the AusIMM, WA Mining Club (Committee member) and Australian Institute of Company Directors (Graduate Member).

Hastings Technology Metals Ltd (ASX:HAS) (FRA:5AM) is currently developing a rare earths mine and processing plant at Yangibana in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia. The processing plant is anticipated to commence production of MREC in late 2019. Hastings has completed both beneficiation and hydrometallurgy pilot plants, in the process producing MREC samples which are high in neodymium and praseodymium content. These are critical materials for the production of permanent magnets and other technology applications. The MREC will be capable of being further separated and refined to produce a number of individual rare earth oxides outside of Australia. Hastings estimates an annual production quantity of 15,000 tonnes of MREC¹ which it will sell to offtake partners globally.
