Singapore, Sep 27, 2006 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Australian Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (AustCham) has recently launched the program for its inaugural conference - 'Capitalising on Asian Growth'. Aimed at business executives from across the Asia-Pacific region, the conference provides a dynamic forum for businesses wishing to 'tap into' the many exciting opportunities emerging from economic growth in Asia.

More than 200 senior executives of companies from Australia, Asia and the Pacific are expected to attend the conference, to be held at Marina Mandarin Hotel, Singapore, from 23 to 24 November 2006.

"This is a unique opportunity for regional business," says Mr John Dick, AustCham President. "For the first time ever, Australian and Asia-Pacific business will have the opportunity to hear first-hand from some of the most successful businesspeople and business experts in our region."

'Capitalising on Asian Growth' is a CEO-level interactive conference that explores the potential growth in trade and investment within Asia - in particular China, India and Southeast Asia - and other topical issues.

All 40 speakers and panelists come from leading organisations throughout the region and bring current regional experience to the conference.

AustCham's first regional business conference has a growing list of distinguished speakers and panelists, including Qantas Managing Director and CEO Geoff Dixon. Mr Dixon is custodian of one of the great Australian corporate icons. Increasingly, Qantas is looking offshore for expansion opportunities and Asia has been at the heart of this activity. Delegates will hear how Mr Dixon has defined the Qantas strategy, how Jetstar Asia was established and his forecasts for the region and Qantas.

Also speaking is Mr Simon Israel, Executive Director, Temasek Holdings Limited, who will share his experience on 'Building a business in Asia' at a luncheon dialogue. Mr Israel has worked in the region for the past 26 years - first with a US multinational, then with the European food giant Danone and now with Temasek Holdings Limited. In his time as CEO of Danone Asia Pacific, he took the company to China and established a US$2billion business, which today has grown to over US$13billion in sales. He will share his approaches and strategies to overcome obstacles when building a business in the region.

Australian High Commissioner to Singapore HE Miles Kupa will also be a guest speaker at the conference.

'Capitalising on Asian Growth' is spearheaded by AustCham Singapore with support from regional Australian business associations including AustCham India, MABC Malaysia, AustCham Thailand, AustCham Beijing, AustCham Shanghai, AustCham Hong Kong, AustCham Vietnam, Indonesian Australian Business Council, ABAC Cambodia, plus Singapore Institute of Directors, Singapore Business Federation and the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade).

The conference marks the 25th anniversary of AustCham and is the first time AustChams in the region have collaborated to organise such an event.

"The conference sees unprecedented cooperation between the regional Australian chambers. It just goes to show what Australians can do when they work together to advance Australian business interests across the Asia region," says Mr Dick.

"Coinciding with AustCham"s Silver Jubilee, the conference provides a terrific platform for Australian and regional business to network and explore ways to work together on trade and investment opportunities."

Delegates will enjoy two days of presentations and plenary sessions which will focus on economic and regulatory updates for all major economies in the region with a special focus on sectors where Australian business is currently highly successful. Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas and network with those at the helm of leading Australian and Asia-Pacific organisations and associations.

In addition to the conference, AustCham is hosting gala dinner to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The AustCham Silver Jubilee Business Awards Dinner will be held on 24 November, with Australian cricket legend Max Walker giving a special address to guests.

AustCham was officially formed in 1981 as the Singapore Australia Business Council. This year the Australian Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) celebrates its Silver Jubilee and boasts nearly 600 individual and corporate members - consisting of Australian, Singaporean and other global citizens.
