Mission NewEnergy Limited (ASX:MBT) Recognised As A Leader In Sustainability Being Appointed A Member Of The ISCC Board

ASX:MBT) (PINK:MIBFF) is pleased to announce that the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food "BLV" has approved the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification system "ISCC" as the first recognized voluntary biofuels standard to comply with the requirements of the German BioNachV legislation. This legislation stipulates rigorous sustainability and carbon savings requirements for liquid biofuels used in Germany for road transport and electric power generation.
Earlier last year Mission became the first & only Palm biodiesel manufacturer to receive attestation under the ISCC.
"Mission's ongoing association with ISCC will enable us to achieve a first mover advantage to access the 2010 EU RED governed biofuels market, through full German Government accredited certification under ISCC. This achievement is also a testimony of Mission's commitment and leadership in delivering sustainable biofuels to the market," said Mr Mursalin New, Chief Sustainability Officer of Mission.
The German BionachV legislation is modeled on the European Union's 2009 Renewable Energy Directive, which requires all European member States to enact sustainability and carbon savings legislation for biofuels before the end of 2010. Only biofuels which are certified as 'sustainable' and with a proven carbon saving of at least 35% compared to petroleum fossil fuel will qualify for counting against each EU member state's transport fuel blending mandate.
Mandated volumes across Europe will therefore only be available for biofuels which are able to achieve sustainability certification. Under the provisions of the EU RED, the approval of the ISCC by the German Government, will also establish it as a qualifying standard for all other European markets.
Development of the ISCC system was funded by the German Government BMLEV. It involved ongoing stakeholder consultation meetings over the past two years and a series of trial certification audits around the world in biofuel producing nations. Mission joined the ISCC stakeholder consultation process in Early 2008 and this involvement resulted in Mission receiving the world's first ISCC carbon savings attestation early in 2009.
Mission's active involvement in the development of the ISCC system has also led to the appointment of Mission as a member of the ISCC Board at this week's inaugural meeting of the ISCC General Assembly in Germany. Mission will be represented on the ISCC Board by its European based Marketing Director, Mr R Vasuthewan.
