Clean Global Energy Limited (ASX:CGV) Drilling Intersects Stranded Coal Seams Suitable For Underground Coal Gasification (UCG)

Sydney, May 5, 2010 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Clean Global Energy Limited (CGV) commenced Stage 1 of its exploration drilling program on EPC1506 on Sunday 21 March 2010. 4 exploration holes totalling 1,112m have been successfully drilled and the 5th exploration hole, currently at 140m is still being drilled. 3 exploration holes have been succesfully logged with wireline logging of the 4th hole to be completed shortly.

The plan below shows the holes which have been drilled in green (refer to link at bottom of release).

The preliminary stratigraphic interpretations indicates 3 coal seams, the Auburn, Bulwer and Condamine, being intersected in the Taroom Coal Measures. The nett coal established from the wireline logs have been 11.7 meters (PROP WK_04), 8.1 meters (PROP WK_08) and 7.4 meters (PROP WK_13). Our primary UCG targets are the Bulwer Coal Seam at up to 3 meters thick and the Condamine Coal Seam at up to 2.5 meters thick.

UCG sites in the Former Soviet Union ran successfully in similarly thick coal seams.

The Taroom Coal Measures represent the lower part of the Wallon Sub-group which comprises three unites; Junadah Coal Measures, Tangalooma Sandstone, Tarrom Coal Measures. Three key seam packages are typically recognised within the Taroom Coal Measures; Auburn, Bulwer and Condamine.

These initial results from the drilling program have now confirmed our initial review of the EPC in identifying coal seams that appeared suitable for UCG. The continued drilling of Stage 1 will prove up the extent of the coal resource and the quality of the black coal intersected in the seams.

This is a great outcome for the company and its shareholders and is a significant step forward in confirming Clean Global Energy has significant coal resources to undertake a commercial UCG project.

BACKGROUND ON CLEAN GLOBAL ENERGY

Clean Global Energy is positioning itself to become a major global alternative energy company by utilising Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) to release untapped energy from coal that is typically uneconomical to mine through convetional processes.

UCG produces a low cost, high quality Syngas that can be used to make ultra clean diesel and other fuels, power and chemicals. The UCG process is far more environmentally friendly than any other form of mining. UCG has been in commercial operations for over 60 years.

Clean Global Energy has an experienced board and management team with a proven commercial and technical track record in UCG and energy in both public and large private corporations. Clean Global Energy has an established engineering and project management team that have experience in UCG, coal bed methane, mining and energy.

Clean Global Energy's UCG process uses an advanced technology known as Controlled Retractable Injection Points ("CRIP") which provides greater control and efficiency in the UCG process. The CRIP UCG process was successfully trialled in a EUR17m European trial in Spain which was headed by Clean Global Energy's Technical Director, Dr. Michael Green. Dr. Green has continued to advance the CRIP technology which he is currently implementing in commercial projects throughout the UK and Europe. Dr. Green is a globally recognised leading authority on UCG.

CLEAN GLOBAL ENERGY'S LINEAR CRIP UCG PROCESS

UCG converts coal into a product commonly known as Syngas without the need for mining. Gasification converts hydrocarbons into Syngas at elevated pressures and temperatures and can be used to create many products including electric power, chemical feedstock, liquid fuels, and hydrogen gas.

Gasification provides numerous opportunities to reduce pollution as compared to more familiar industries, especially with respcet to emissions of sulphur, nitrous oxides, and mercury. Otherwise un-mineable deep or thin coals are potentially valuable for UCG.

The UCG process has significant advantages over other methods of extracting energy from coal in that it allows coal to be processed underground, thus eliminating expensive mining operations and minimising ground disturbance, in order to produce a low cost industrial gas. The gas can then be used in either power generation or in the further production of liquid petroleum products.

The UCG process has been in commercial use since 1940 with current commercial operations in Angren, Uzbekistan where it is converting brown coal (lignite) to Syngas for use in the nearby power station. Commercial UCG operations are currently being development throughout Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Europe, UK, North and South America.
