CSR (ASX:CSR) Agreed to Sell Sugar Business to Wilmar (SIN:F34)

CSR Limited (ASX:CSR) said it has agreed to sell its sugar and renewable energy business, Sucrogen, to Singapore listed agribusiness Wilmar International Limited (SIN:F34) for A$1.75 billion.

The Australian market fell for an eighth straight session on Thursday and closed at its lowest level in 11 months. The market opened lower after Wall Street fell on disappointing employment data in the US. Sentiment was dented further as a fall in China's purchasing managers' index for June raised concerns of a slowdown in Chinese economy. At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index slashed 64 points, or 1.49 per cent, at 4237.5 points. The broader All Ordinaries index was down 62.1 points, or 1.44 per cent, at 4262.7.

The Asian markets were broadly lower on Monday after the Dow Jones on Friday slumped 3.2 per cent due to the refresh fears on Europe debt. The Hungarian prime minister's spokesman said the country's economy was at risk of entering a Greek-style debt crisis. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index plunged more than 3 per cent in early trade.
